Call a Courier for time-conscious deliveries
I’d take my hat off to a Courier service if I was wearing one (which I’m not!) I think couriers more than earn the money that they make. Going back a few years I worked part time as a Courier whilst I was at university and let me tell you, this isn’t a job for the faint-hearted. My life as a Courier was a bit of blur, I’d be speeding from one company the next picking up parcels, racing through traffic and delivering the parcels to their target destination. The company I worked for took pride in the fact they never delivered documents late and as a Courier that put extra pressure on your shoulders. I know how hard it can for couriers at times and for that reason alone they earn my total respect.
Why do people call couriers?
Most of the time people make contact with a Courier company when they have urgent parcels, letters or documents they need delivering in the shortest possible time. An agreed time slot is normally reached with a Courier, sometimes this can be next day if the package isn’t urgent, however, in most instances time is of the essence and same day deliveries are required. A Courier then has to make their way to the target destination as fast as they can whilst negotiating traffic at the same. It can be a real adventure, especially when delays occur which they frequently did when I was a Courier! It’s a challenge you have to rise to though if you are going to get your consignments delivered on time.
What skills do you need to be a Courier?
Good driving skills are needed if you are to make it as a Courier and map reading skills can be handy as well. I know that Satellite Navigation systems have tried to do away with maps but they can be temperamental at times and it’s handy to have access to maps as a Courier. An in-depth knowledge of major road networks is crucial if you want to cut it as a Courier, you can’t afford to get lost because you’ve taken the wrong route. And excellent time-management and organisational skills are essential too because you might have to juggle various deliveries on any given day. Trust me, couriers earn their crust, it’s a demanding job to get goods delivered bang on time.
